  • REI In Your Car 194: Rap Music and the Power of Singular Focus

Once again, I’m here at the Jump Kids VBS that our church puts on every summer. Because I work the sound in the huge lunch tent, I’ve had the opportunity to get to know the Christian rap artist, Mike, who performs here. He has an amazing story of his transformation from his gangster-crime days, to now “rapping” for Christ. Even though we’re total opposites, we’ve become good friends.

In this episode, I talk about Mike’s life, and how focused he is with his music. He’s not out there chasing a dozen different things. He’s a rap artist, and he focuses on that one thing. His lifestyle and his talent reflect this.

It’s the power of singular focus.

I feel that it’s a good lesson for all of us. (Me included.) You’ve heard me say before that I’m easily tempted with the “bright and shiny objects.”

But I’m presently in the midset of scaling back in a number of areas and simplifying my life. And Mike’s example has helped.

Listen and Enjoy:

What’s inside:

  • The power of maintaining singular focus
  • Master one area before moving to the next
  • Find your passion; find what you’re called to do
  • My challenge to you for 1 year
