Gavin knows firsthand what it’s like to encounter a scammer. In his case, they created a fake power of attorney, and he didn’t catch it until after they went to send the money during closing. Bad guys are everywhere today and advances in technology make scammers hard to catch. That’s why due diligence is so important. No matter if you’re just starting out or a veteran in the real estate game, skipping your own investigation and research in a deal could have big consequences.
When you’re emotionally involved in something, common sense can go out the window. Even if you’re the smartest person in the world, it’s easy to miss the signs when excitement takes hold of you. When you’re too eager and skip the due diligence process, you might find yourself out of money and looking for a lawyer. Whenever something feels too good to be true, it probably is. Always trust your gut and stay alert to steer clear of scammers.
